The decision means that European league seasons will be affected, with Serie A usually taking place from September to May.

European hopes had been for an April-May World Cup, but FIFA has ruled this out as temperatures will still be very high, and the month of Ramadan takes place in April.

A final decision will be made at a FIFA meeting on March 19.
