Zola on the brink

It’s expected that Gianfranco Zola will leave his position as Cagliari Coach today, with Zdenek Zeman likely to return.

A 2-0 defeat to Sampdoria on Sunday leaves the Isolani marooned four points from safety, and it was reported last night that the club was seeking alternatives.

Unione Sarda speculates that Zola could even offer his resignation, meaning that the club would not be forced to pay his salary until the end of the season.

That issue over salary means that Zdenek Zeman is the most likely candidate to replace the former Chelsea striker, as he is already being paid by the club.

The Czech Coach was sacked in December to make way for Zola, but things have not improved in his absence.

Claudio Ranieri, Walter Zenga and Delio Rossi are also in the frame should Zeman opt not to return, but it would be preferable not to have another Coach on the payroll.
