The on-loan Juventus full-back fractured his tibia and fibula after coming off worse in a challenge with Roma’s Radja Nainggolan yesterday.

Thankfully, the Flying Donkeys have announced that the 19-year-old’s surgery was successful, after going under the knife last night.

“AC Chievo Verona announces that the surgery performed on the player Federico Mattiello was a complete success,” the club wrote on its official website.

“The player will remain under observation in the orthopedics department at the Sacre Cuore hospital in Nergar, and will be constantly monitored prior to an official definition of the prognosis.

“The operation, which lasted two hours, was necessary as a result of a clash during the 16th minute of the first half of Chievo Verona-Roma, which caused a fracture of the tibia and fibula of the player’s right leg.”

It is not yet clear when Mattiello will return to the field, but no knee ligament damage was suffered in the incident, meaning a shorter recovery time.
