Edy Reja hopes today’s 2-1 victory over Sassuolo “can give Atalanta confidence” in the race for safety.

“We hadn’t won for two months, so it was only normal that the fans would be worried,” noted the Coach on Rai Sport.

“With today’s three points we made a small step forward. We hope this victory can give Atalanta confidence.

“It also helped that we played after knowing Cesena’s result.”

Cesena lost 1-0 at home to Chievo in the early game, so Atalanta are now seven points clear of the drop zone.

On Saturday their training session was interrupted by a fan protest, which saw an ultra leader lecture the squad for 15 minutes.

“The players agreed to meet with them and the fans assured us they will support the team to the end. I don’t understand why people tried to make it into a negative thing.

“A few supporters were irritated, but there were absolutely no threats of any kind. I can guarantee that 100 per cent.”
