“We must try to take the initiative,” team manager Guerini told Sport Mediaset.

“With Vincenzo Montella we have always played in a certain way and the results have arrived. We must play our game without thinking about the result, seeing as we are incapable of doing otherwise.”

Fiorentina have already fumbled positive first leg situations, both in the Europa League last season and last month’s Coppa Italia semi-final.

The Tuscans have faltered badly in recent weeks and were beaten 1-0 at home by Hellas Verona on Monday in Serie A.

“The important thing is to not behave like fools, as we did against Verona.”

There is an injury crisis with Mario Gomez the only available striker, as Khouma Babacar is out for the rest of the season, while there is no recovery yet for Giuseppe Rossi and Federico Bernardeschi.

Alberto Gilardino and Alessandro Diamanti are not on the UEFA list.

“Gomez has always taken on his share of the responsibility in his career. However, it is not fair to treat him like the saviour. He is our centre-forward, but the team can score with other players,” added Guerini.
