Mario Gomez said it’s “easier” for Fiorentina to face Sevilla in the Europa League semi-final than a regular game.

The first leg of the Europa League semi-final kicks off in Spain on Thursday at 20.05 UK time (19.05 GMT).

“We haven’t won anything yet. That means we are happy to be here, but still have these very difficult games ahead of us,” said the striker in his Press conference.

The Viola have been dropping points in Serie A recently, losing four in a row before breaking the run at the weekend against Cesena.

“Sevilla are strong and we know that we must give our best. Actually, it’s easier for us to play these fixtures because we are all extremely concentrated.

“We all know that for the city and also for us it’s a great thing to be challenging for the Final.”

Gomez was asked whether he felt indebted to Fiorentina fans, having failed to deliver and been out injured for so long.

“The last two years are something I cannot do anything else about, so I prefer to look forwards. That means our objective, which is to reach the Europa League Final in Warsaw.

“We are a team, we work together and I am certainly the kind of striker who needs a team that attacks behind him.

“I trust my team-mates will do the same tomorrow, as they always do.”
