There’s a double celebration for Iachini, as it’s his 100th Serie A appearance and he becomes only the second Rosanero tactician – after Francesco Guidolin – to complete a campaign under Maurizio Zamparini without getting sacked.

“Many talented Coaches have passed through Palermo under Zamparini, including Guidolin and Delio Rossi, so this record can only make me happy,” smiled Iachini.

“I am pleased the President appreciated my work and that of the staff. Along the road we formed an interpersonal rapport based on sharing ideas.

“At times we might not have agreed, but in the end I thank him because he did tell me to go forward with my plans. It’s a good collaboration.

“Do I want to move on? I have received several offers, but I turned them down because I want to continue my work at Palermo. There’s a project being born here and I can’t just give that up.

“I’d say our season was worth eight out of 10, as we secured safety early on and got the best out of several players. Without hitting the woodwork 20 times, it could’ve been even better.

“Over the next few days I will meet with the President and give some indications on planning for next season.”
