Benitez presented in Madrid

An emotional Rafa Benitez has been presented as the new Real Madrid Coach and has received the backing of President Florentino Perez.

The Spaniard had his final Napoli match on Sunday, losing 4-2 to Lazio and therefore missing out on Champions League football for next season.

“Madrid is my home, it’s emotional to be back,” said a tearful Benitez during his welcoming presentation.

“I hope it goes well, that the team plays quality football and wins trophies.

“This is the hard part, having to speak but not really knowing what to say.”

Madrid President Florentino Perez gave his backing to the new Coach and praised his laevel of experience.

“We’re sure that the arrival of our new Coach will make us stronger,” said Perez.

“Benitez knows our club, he’s one of the best in the world and has great international experience and a great CV despite his youth.

“Rafa, I’m sure you’re very emotional, you are a Madridista and no one will understand as well as you do the importance of this moment.”
