“I am optimistic on Jackson’s move to Milan, but we’re not quite there yet,” agent Luiz Henrique Pompeo told EuroStadio.it.

“There’s no deal with the player yet. There is a good possibility we’ll conclude the transfer, but we are not yet at the all-clear moment.

“Will they pay the €35m clause? You’d have to ask Milan that, it is not something that regards us. As for the wages, I cannot discuss figures at the moment.

“What I can say with certainty is that Martinez is a player worthy of a top club and Milan wrote history.

“The Rossoneri are not just a big club, but a huge one.”

Earlier on Thursday afternoon, Pompeo had given a rosier picture of the situation, with quotes repeated on Milan Channel.

“We’re there now,” the agent told Calciomercato.com. “We are very close to concluding a deal with Milan and there’s a very good chance it will be finalised.

“We hope to give the announcement tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. He’d make a dream partnership with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.”

The Rossoneri are trying to fight off competition from Arsenal, Manchester City and Valencia.
