Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero has said he would have gladly kept Samuel Eto’o ahead of his expected move to Antalyaspor.
It was reported yesterday that the former Inter striker will join the Turkish club for around €1m after only six months with the Blucerchiati.
Ferrero explained to Il Secolo XIX that he would have liked to keep the 34-year-old at the club, but he wanted to leave.
“We would have kept Eto’o, because he’s a star and a great champion,” Ferrero said.
“Him leaving is simply the result of supporting his desire to seize an interesting opportunity offered by a very ambitious foreign club.
“He has shown that he is a champion and a leader, we would have gladly kept him.”
