Gian Piero Gasperini says Genoa should aim low next season, whilst complaining that his team is being 'ignored'.

The Grifone have not been one of the most active clubs on the transfer market so far, but their Coach is not concerned.

“We spent many transfer markets together and I know perfectly well how [President Enrico] Preziosi operates,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I know that everything we need will come. We'll never have an incomplete squad as long as he's at the helm.

“I'm only nervous when my objectives are reshuffled.

“If somebody tells me that we have to reconquer Europe right away, I answer that that's nonsense.

“Our objective remains the same, staying in Serie A and playing with the same mentality as the previous season, otherwise we'll be in trouble.”

When asked about their objectives next season, Gasperini decided to keep a low profile.

“We made a tabula rasa on everything, even our disappointment.

“We know what our dimension is, let's start by aiming for safety, and we'll see what else comes.

“Many players have changed, but the situation is clear.

“These are the needs of the club. We must acknowledge that and give our best, then who knows what may happen in a few years.

“It's not a way to limit ourselves in advance, it's clarity.

“I don't mean to detract from our potential. The new players are very interesting and we are working on them.

“My own future? I'm happy where I am, in one of the first Italian clubs.

“The problem is that when teams like ours emerge, we are treated like an accident of fate.

“Those who know football can tell you that coming ahead of Milan and Inter after 38 games is not a coincidence.

“My Genoa is ignored. Nobody talks about a team that came sixth, that played well, scored goals and developed players.

“We deserved every point we made, there can be no doubts about that.

“Some teams that have long been celebrated ended up behind us, and by a margin.”
