Inter crushed by Madrid

Inter were heavily beaten by Real Madrid in Guangzhou, despite Roberto Mancini deploying a strong side.

The Nerazzurri continued their pre-season tour of China, having been defeated by city rivals Milan in Shanghai on Saturday.

Coach Roberto Mancini opted for a stronger line-up for the clash with the Spanish giants, with new signings Martin Montoya, Jeison Murillo and Geoffrey Kondogbia playing from the start.

It was Los Merengues who had the better of the opening exchanges, with Gareth Bale burning Andrea Ranocchia for pace before firing past the post.

Samir Handanovic was called into action twice to deny Cristiano Ronaldo free-kicks, before a stunning double-save on 23 minutes denied first Jese, then Isco.

Despite the efforts of the Beneamata goalkeeper, Madrid could not be contained, and Jese eventually broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark, cutting inside Murillo before firing his left-footed effort past Handanovic.

Things did not improve for Mancini’s men after the break, and the Nerazzurri found themselves 2-0 down after just over 10 minutes.

Raphael Varane, one of a number of half-time changes, got across Ranocchia in the box, and cushioned a nice volley into the back of the net.

As is inevitable in pre-season friendlies, the volume of substitutions interrupted the flow of the game, and the action became scrappy.

However, one of the subs, James Rodriguez, did provide a moment of quality in putting his side 3-0 up, curling a delightful free-kick into the top corner of Handanovic's net.
