Capocannoniere Luca Toni will “evaluate my future with Verona” next summer, by which point he’ll be 39 years old.

The veteran hitman was still more prolific than anyone else last term, topping the scoring charts alongside Inter’s Mauro Icardi with 22 goals.

“The last two seasons have gone well and I did important things in the Verona jersey, first coming second and then top of the Capocannoniere charts,” Toni told Sky Sport Italia.

“The last two seasons have gone well and I did important things in the Verona jersey, first coming second and then top of the Capocannoniere charts,” Toni told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s great for a young kid like me! All joking aside, to achieve something like that at the age of 38 is wonderful.

“In truth I never think at the start of a season that I’m going to be Capocannoniere, as the important thing is to score and do well for the team.

“After the end of this season I will be 39, so we’ll see what to do. As long as I have the desire to train then I will continue and when that desire goes I will speak to the directors. We’ll evaluate my future along with Verona.”

Toni has a new teammate this season, his old friend and former Fiorentina strike partner Giampaolo Pazzini.

“Pazzini is settling in well and we can’t wait to get into real games. Friendlies count for little or nothing.”
