Udinese goalkeeper Simone Scuffet hints Roma have “fast lane access” to his future, denies rejecting Atletico Madrid and is ready for Como.

The teenager made his Serie A debut at the age of 17 and immediately earned comparisons with Gigi Buffon, including calls for him to be included in the 2014 World Cup squad.

However, he barely featured last term and has now been sent out on loan to Serie B side Como.

“In full agreement with Udinese, I decided to go to Serie B so I could play regularly and improve,” he told the Corriere dello Sport.

“It is an experience that can enrich my curriculum. Last term the club believed it was right for me to wait and I was at their disposal.”

This is an extraordinary step down for someone who reportedly rejected a €10m transfer to Atletico Madrid in 2014, mainly so he could finish his studies in Udine.

“I heard a lot about this story, but the truth is I didn’t reject anyone. Again, this was a decision made in accordance with Udinese.”

As for the future, there are rumours Roma have an option on Scuffet for next season.

“I don’t know about that, but it’s too early to talk about it anyway. First I need to have a great campaign in my team. I expect a big club like Roma does have a strategy and will find the best solution for them.

“Let’s just say that if Roma were interested in me, they would have fast-lane access to sign me. I am focused on Como now and at the end of the season we’ll decide what to do. We’ll have to discuss it with Udinese.”
