Stoke City have officially confirmed the signing of Inter winger Xherdan Shaqiri for a club record €17m.

The Swiss international was at the Britannia Stadium for the weekend defeat to Liverpool, and has today been confirmed as a Potters player.

“Stoke City are delighted to announce the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri from Inter for a Club record fee of £12million,” an official statement confirmed.

“The 23-year-old Swiss international winger has signed a five-year contract with the Potters and will link-up with his new teammates this week ahead of Saturday’s trip to Tottenham.”

Stoke manager Mark Hughes also gave his opinion on the transfer, with Shaqiri leaving San Siro despite only arriving in January.

“He’s a dynamic and explosive player who will bring something different to the group and at the age of 23 he still has a great deal of potential.

“In the chats I’ve had with him it’s obvious that he’s excited about playing in the Premier League and showing what he’s capable of.”

Shaqiri will wear the number 22 shirt.

The Nerazzurri also posted a brief statement confirming the 23-year-old’s departure.

“F.C. Internazionale have reached an agreement with Premier League club Stoke City over the permanent transfer of Xherdan Shaqiri.”
