Federico Balzaretti retires as a player but will stay with Roma: '[Walter] Sabatini told me to take my course as a sporting director'.
On from his statements thanking the club and the fans for his time as a footballer, the 33-year-old discussed what would be his future.
“I will now form part of the sports management staff here at Roma,” he said. “It's something I like and feel is right for me.
"I'm motivated and can't wait to get started on this new adventure. For now I'll be working with youngsters away on loan.
“[Current sporting director Walter] Sabatini told me to take my course as a sporting director.
“It's a role I admire and might like to take on in the future.”
Finally, Balzaretti was asked what his best memory was from his time at Roma.
"The derby goal. But there have been so many special moments, including my last game.
“Receiving an offer like this from such a massive club like Roma at the age of 33 fills me with great pride.”
Director general Mauro Baldissoni also thanked Balzaretti and wished him the best.
“Last year Federico didn't play but stayed close to the team nonetheless, and that act didn't go unnoticed.
“We're sorry about his farewell to football but we offered Federico to keep working with us for the human contribution that he can offer.
“He'll keep working within management.”
