Former Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has been appointed as the new Coach of Lega Pro side Pisa.

The 2006 World Cup-winner has endured mixed fortunes since moving into coaching, having been sacked by FC Sion and Palermo, as well as resigning from OFI Crete.

The former Rangers man had been linked with a return to Scottish football, reportedly in the frame for the managerial position at his old side and Hamilton Academical, but will now continue his career in Italy’s third tier.

“AC Pisa announces that it has entrusted the the management of the first team to Gennaro Gattuso,” a statement on the club’s website confirmed.

“The new Coach will be joined by assistant Luigi Riccio, goalkeeping coach David Biancalani, fitness Coach Matteo Levi Micheli, and technical coach Massimo Innocenti.

“The new Coach has just signed his contract, before immediately heading to the Filettole sports centre to conduct his first training session, which was delayed until 17.30 for logistical reasons.

“Gennaro Gattuso will be presented to the Press tomorrow morning.”
