Soriano was the subject of a meeting between Milan and Samp on Saturday with more negotiations planned for Monday.
“Soriano will be on the field against Carpi and I believe for the next game too,” said Coach Zenga in a Press conference.
“He will be our captain and I have no doubts, because I have a club that works in the best way. The Europa League preliminary round exit was a hiccup and we want to fill the fans with our enthusiasm.
“Carpi achieved something extraordinary last season by winning the Serie B title and are excellent at making the most of their opponents’ errors. It won’t be easy for us, especially as the early games in a season are always tough to predict.”
Cassano is in the squad after signing a two-year contract and Zenga again denied he had tried to block this move.
“We had already decided with the club that he would arrive. I want to know which genius claimed I would resign if Cassano joined.
“With Cassano and when Joaquin Correa recovers we’ll have more options in attack. Antonio is the extra weapon for Sampdoria and put himself at the disposal of the squad like a great professional.”
This match will see the debut of the new hybrid turf at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, which already proved successful at San Siro.
“Now the pitch holds up well on the edges too. We have been testing it out over the last few days. Am I excited about my debut? Very much so, especially as I want to wipe out the negative Europa League result.”
