Cesare Maldini cast his eye over the Scudetto race, Milan Derby and asked “what more does Mario Balotelli want?”

The former Italy and Milan Coach spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport ahead of this Sunday night’s Derby della Madonnina.

“Balotelli is no longer a kid and must understand what life is about, how he needs to behave. Everyone loves Mario at Milan, they all believe in him and think with him playing there’s a good chance of victory. What more does he want?

The former Italy and Milan Coach spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport ahead of this Sunday night’s Derby della Madonnina.

“Balotelli is no longer a kid and must understand what life is about, how he needs to behave. Everyone loves Mario at Milan, they all believe in him and think with him playing there’s a good chance of victory. What more does he want?

“He needs to leave that other life behind him. I hope he can, because he undoubtedly has the quality to succeed.”

Balotelli could well start the derby against Inter this weekend.

“Milan have a few problems tied to injuries, but they have a good attack and I like the Carlos Bacca-Luiz Adriano strike pairing.

“In order to win, they need the perfect performance in attack, defence and midfield. The derby is a game you have to fight to the end. When you win, you feel like you own the city. It’ll mean even more this season, as neither club is in Europe.

“It feels too early in the season to be playing it and it’s tough to judge the teams after just two rounds. Milan signed some excellent young players, but we all know they go through highs and lows.

“In attack both teams have the players who can hurt opponents with runs from deep. Inter changed a great deal and invested a lot, although this doesn’t always go hand in hand with results.

“Who is the favourite? With my heart I say Milan, but looking at Inter’s investments, I don’t know…”

Juventus started the campaign with two consecutive defeats, so what does Maldini think will happen in the Scudetto race?

“I feel the Milan duo can challenge for the title, just like Juventus and Roma. It’s the usual suspects, because a side not accustomed to winning Scudetti finds it much more difficult.”
