Roberto Mancini confirmed he wanted to sign Mario Balotelli, but Inter director Piero Ausilio denies it.

The Coach made the admission during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport this week, stating he had spoken to SuperMario during his time at Liverpool and was ready to bring him back to San Siro.

“I think the Coach was joking…” director Ausilio told Mediaset Premium this evening.

“We know Mario, we launched his career and care for him. Now we can only be happy he has this new chance. I think his Interista experience ended a long time ago. We haven’t contacted him recently.”

If Inter win tonight, they will be alone on top of the table for the first time in five years.

“In terms of the table, this match is worth three points. We have started well and would like to continue. We have to improve and through games like this can gain belief and confidence.”

With Joao Miranda injured, Mancini picked Gary Medel at centre-back rather than last season’s captain Andrea Ranocchia.

“Mancini has a great squad at his disposal. If he chose Medel in that position, it’s because he made certain evaluations during the week.”
