Roma’s Alessandro Florenzi ‘enjoys being a full-back’ and reflects on his wonder goal against Barcelona: ‘I thought the applause was for trying!’
The 24-year-old scored a stunning goal from the halfway line to earn the Giallorossi a 1-1 draw against the defending champions at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday.
“The initial idea was to pass forward to Dzeko, but he was closed down by the defenders,” Florenzi explained to Roma Radio today.

“I saw out of the corner of my eye that the goalkeeper had come forward and I thought about it and then decided to have a go.
“It went well, Ter Stegen started to run during the lob and then I heard the applause, but I thought it was because I’d tried to score an unforgettable goal.
“We prepared well for this match, we worked on concentration and it was one of the biggest games of the last few years.
“I am a full-back and I have felt like one since Garcia played me in that role.
“I liked it straight away, you have chances going forward that you normally wouldn’t get because you’re marked.
“Sassuolo? Now comes the hard part, we will need everybody.
“Did I actually get De Rossi a coffee? Just this morning!”
