'Bologna, Destro needs time'

Coach Delio Rossi believes Mattia Destro will reward his team ‘in due time’, whilst thanking Bologna supporters.

It’s been a rough start to the season for the Petroniani as they go into tomorrow’s game against Frosinone, played at 2p.m. UK time, as the only two teams still with zero points in the standings.

But they have not lost the support of their fans, as 500 of them showed up at the team’s base in Casteldebole this morning.

“It was a magnificent hug with our people,” said Rossi in today’s Press conference.

“It was a real pleasure because it lets the lads become aware of the environment they’re in, and this is important and beautiful.

“We suffered some injuries and this should have been accounted for because many of the lads hadn’t been playing very much.

“But I’m getting back [defender Daniele] Gastaldello. He may not be match-ready yet, but he could carve some space for himself since we’re playing every three days.”

Rossi was then asked about Bologna’s most dramatic summer signing, former Roma and Milan striker Mattia Destro.

“Like any other player, he needs to be fit to make a difference.

“You’ll see, in time he’s going to meet all expectations. When he first arrived I said that it would be wrong to expect everything right away because of matters related to his condition.

“In the last two games we’ve been punished disproportionately compared to our mistakes, but we’re calm and we shouldn’t put too much pressure on the lads.

“With a clear mind we’ll see the quality of the players.”
