Although this is usually a relegation dogfight, both sides have been doing fairly well so far this term, but are well aware things could change rapidly.

There was tension in the air, as when these teams met in April there was an ugly post-script to the 2-2 draw.

After the game, Atalanta striker Denis punched Empoli defender Lorenzo Tonelli in what has been described as a locker room ambush.

Denis received a five-match ban, but Tonelli also got a one-game suspension for serious threats made earlier.

El Tanque is on the bench with the return of Mauricio Pinilla from suspension.

The Twitter accounts of both clubs published a photograph of Tonelli and Denis shaking hands before the game this evening.

Marcelo Estigarribia is the only absentee for Edy Reja’s men, as he underwent knee surgery this week.

Empoli miss Levan Mchedlidze, but surprisingly start 19-year-old striker Alessandro Piu’ for his absolute senior debut in all competition.

He is partnered by Massimo Maccarone, who recently turned 36, and Saponara.
