Erick Thohir says Inter’s aim is not the Scudetto but being ‘among the top ten clubs in the world’, and backs Roberto Mancini for the job.
The Nerazzurri could see their party spoiled by Fiorentina tonight, but in the meantime their President is able to enjoy the moment.
“We’re in an excellent position and our results are wonderful,” he told Sky Sports Italia. “As are the relationships within the team.
“It’s too early to talk of the Scudetto, but we have some objectives: we want to be among the top ten clubs in the world.
“If we make it into the Champions League we’ll need 20-22 players of the same level.
“But Serie A is hard, there are six or seven clubs able to compete. Let’s stay concentrated and realistic.
“Our first five games weren’t easy, but we made it thanks to the team’s solidity and the character shown by Mancini. I can’t deny we’re very pleased.
“Juventus? I didn’t think they’d be so far back, but that’s part of the surprises in football.”
The Indonesian magnate then went on to discuss Coach Mancini.
“Our relationship is developing. Of course I don’t know him very well because he’s only been here one year.
“We often speak on the phone, or send text messages because of the time-zones.
“He has a strong character and a great personality, he’s a Coach that makes work easier for you.
“Our game is being criticised? I think the results take priority, though of course we have to improve.
“But results so far have been excellent and I have firm faith in our Coach.
“The atmosphere in this team is positive and Mancini is of great support, not least in the commercial side of the club, because he is one of Inter’s icons.
“As the President, and as a team, we have to support him.
“Our philosophy is that of bringing the best people to Inter, those who have the best mentality.
“I think we’re building something interesting.”
