Roma director Walter Sabatini admits he’d love to bring Medhi Benatia, Erik Lamela and Marquinhos back, but it’s unlikely.
The chief was asked about the trio during today’s charity event between the Roma Legends and Liberi Nantes.
“Before you talked about Lamela, then Marquinhos and now even Benatia,” shrugged Sabatini at reporters.
“I’ve always liked Medhi, of course, and if there was the chance to bring him back, then I would. But last year he left in some pretty bitter circumstances with the fans…
“Marquinhos is strong too and I’d like him back, but he costs about €60m now and that’s excessive.”
Roma sold defender Benatia to Bayern Munich in August 2014 for €28m, twice what they paid to get him from Udinese a year earlier.
The Giallorossi also made a huge profit on Lamela, buying him from River Plate for €17m and two years later completing a sale to Tottenham for €30m.
Marquinhos was the ultimate bargain, as the defender arrived from Corinthians in August 2012 on loan with option to buy for a total €7.2m and was sold to Paris Saint-Germain in July 2013 for €31.4m.
