FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio says Italy are targeting the Euro 2016 semi-finals “at the minimum.”
The Azzurri sealed their place in France with a win over Azerbaijan, and conclude the qualifying campaign against Norway tomorrow.
“We have to get to the last four at a minimum,” Tavecchio said at a Press conference.
“Then we’ll see where we go. Last night we saw what happened with Germany and Holland, it’s not a bed of roses. We’ve qualified with a game to spare, that means we’re worth something.
“We have players created by [CT Antonio] Conte, a collective created by a remarkable man. After the World Cup we were in worse shape.”
Conte has been reluctant to commit his future to the national team, with his contract expiring after the European Championships, but Tavecchio is not concerned.
“There’s harmony in the relationship with Antonio Conte. We see each other at least twice a week, it’s almost as if we go to church together.
“Conte is very happy to be at the helm of the national team, in every respect.
“We’re not going to discuss our commitments for the coming year, we’ve put someone in charge of our national team, and it depends entirely on him.
“We’re servants to everyone, but slaves to no-one. Conte is the best Coach now, and for the national team in the future.
