Andrea Barzagli says he’ll retire from international football after this summer’s European Championships.
Italy confirmed their place at Euro 2016 last week, but the 34-year-old won’t be sticking around for the 2018 World Cup campaign.
“I’ll leave the Azzurri after the Euros,” Barzagli revealed in an interview with Sky.
“It’s right to give younger players a chance. I think I'm lucky to still be in the national team at 34-35.
"[Andrea] Pirlo and [Gigi] Buffon are another category of player. Personally I'm just lucky to be in the national team this year and next year."
The centre-back also looked ahead to this Sunday’s Derby d’Italia, where his Juventus side will take on Inter.
“With Inter it’s the game of truth, we can’t lose if we want to recover.”
