Matri targets Italy return

Lazio striker Alessandro Matri is targeting a return to the Italy squad, and discusses the Scudetto race.

The forward is on loan at the Biancocelesti from Milan, but hasn’t featured in Serie A since the 5-0 defeat to Napoli on September 20, as he struggled with injury.

“I’m ready to start again,” Matri assured Premium Sport.

“For the last two weeks I’ve been training with the squad. I know I’m here on loan, and I want to prove myself and do well.

“Italy? I’ll try to give [CT Antonio] Conte a headache and win a shirt. Meanwhile, I congratulate the whole team on achieving qualification.”

The Aquile finished third last season, with Matri on loan at Juventus, and he discussed this season’s Scudetto race.

“It’s a strange campaign, but Juventus will climb back up again. They’re definitely good, they’ll be there until the end.

“Milan? [Coach Sinisa] Mihajlovic is working well, he needs time to impose his game. We’ll see after the international breaks if there have been improvements.”
