Marcello Lippi believes Napoli are Scudetto contenders, and discusses the Derby d’Italia.
The Partenopei continued their fine recent form this weekend with a win over table-toppers Fiorentina, leaving them just three points behind the Viola.
“Napoli have confirmed their technical strength up-front,” the former Vesuviani Coach told Gr Parlamento.
“They have extraordinary players like [Gonzalo] Higuain and [Lorenzo] Insigne, and they’re performing very well.
“Coaches throw water on the fire so people’s expectations don’t get too much, but in his heart [Coach Maurizio] Sarri also believes in this beautiful thing [the Scudetto].
“They have balance. Last year they scored a lot of goals, but conceded almost as many as a relegated team.
“The quality of their play is very good, and there’s good feeling between the Coach and the players. Players just want a Coach who makes them win, and when they have that they’ll dedicate themselves entirely to him.
“They’ve had a bit of luck though. If the Sevilla Coach [Unai Emery] had said yes, he [Sarri] wouldn’t be on the bench.”
Lippi also Coached Juventus and Inter, and gave his thoughts on last night’s Derby d’Italia.
“There was too much tension and pressure on the pitch, and the game became more physical than technical.
“Inter have to find a way to square the circle. [Juventus Coach Max] Allegri has important players back, they can compete for the title too.
“Paul Pogba? He no longer has [Andrea] Pirlo and [Arturo] Vidal alongside him, he finds himself alone in having support the midfield, and he doesn’t have the right maturity.”
