‘Platini could still stand’

FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio says UEFA is “not ruling out” Michel Platini’s bid for FIFA President.

The head of European football’s governing body has been suspended for 90 days, and today UEFA announced that it would support Gianni Infantino.

The deadline for candidates is 11pm UK time today, and Tavecchio hints that Platini could still stand.

“UEFA is not ruling out the candidacy of Michel Platini, which is linked to the outcome of the Court of Arbitration for Sport,” Tavecchio told reporters as he opened an FIGC training centre.

“Infantino? He’s still young, and he knows the sporting system well, he has the chance to achieve his objective.”
