Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain is ‘the best striker in circulation’ according to former Azzurri CT Cesare Prandelli.
The Argentine hitman scored again last night as the Partenopei defeated Palermo 2-0, his eighth goal of the Serie A season.
Prandelli believes he is only equalled by Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, but refused to be drawn into a Diego Maradona comparison.
“The technical and charismatic leader of this team is definitely Gonzalo Higuain, who in my opinion is the best striker in circulation along with Bayern’s Lewandowski,” Prandelli said in his Calciomercato.com column.
“Beyond the undoubted technical qualities, he’s showing, even more than in the past, that he really pulls his teammates along, managing to improve certain intolerant behaviour that was likely to arouse annoyed reactions.
“Can he be the Scudetto man like Maradona was in his time? I would avoid a certain type of comparison because we are talking about two great champions, but Diego is a class apart.
“The charisma that Maradona had goes beyond the imagination, he was an authentic leader of men.
“Ultimately, what is this Napoli lacking to win the Scudetto? Perhaps a great central defender, a man of experience who can instil additional security to the position and who knows how to enable Koulibaly to develop even faster.
“He’s a boy with great potential that Sarri is helping to bring out and can really become a player of the highest level.”
