Carpi have appealed Marco Borriello’s three-match ban for an attempted head-butt. “He was provoked.”

The striker was handed the three-round Serie A suspension after his red card in an altercation with Frosinone’s Danilo Soddimo.

Although he did not make full contact, Borriello did lean in as if to head-butt the Frosinone midfielder.

“It is certainly too heavy a punishment and we are preparing an appeal,” confirmed Carpi patron Stefano Bonacini.

“It is certainly too heavy a punishment and we are preparing an appeal,” confirmed Carpi patron Stefano Bonacini.

“There are those who have done worse than Marco, who by the way was also strongly provoked by his opponent.

“Clearly, it’s not that someone who is provoked must react that way, but Borriello simply made the gesture as a challenge, not with any real intention of hurting his colleague.

“I will also add that Borriello is an exemplary professional.”

Borriello responded angrily to the ban on Twitter today as well.

“Never a clash. Never a brawl. Never a red card in my career. Three-match ban for not even touching anyone? It’s absurd!!!!!”
