“We are going to Rome seeking a victory, knowing that Lazio have won their last eight games at home in all competition. We know that we need the best performance of the season, but I have faith, as we prepared well for this match.

“If we were to win, it would be another big confidence booster. If we lose? There’s no point bandaging a head before it’s broken. We analysed their strengths and weaknesses, discovering it’s no coincidence they do well at home and struggle away.

“Psychologically we’re in good shape, as we’ve had three positive results in a row, so we are aiming to continue that streak.

“I have always been confident and the more time goes on, the more confident I become in this team. I know these players, see them every day in training and always had faith.”

This week President Silvio Berlusconi said Champions League qualification was “imperative” for Milan.

“It is our objective, we’ve said that since the start of the season,” replied Mihajlovic. “We know that at this moment there are teams in better shape than us, but that doesn’t mean it’ll continue that way for the whole campaign.

“When we get back the strikers from injury, we’ll have more options to change tactics. We’ve practically always had just two forwards available this term.

“MBaye Niang is an important option for the last 15-20 minutes. As for Mario Balotelli, there’s no news on his injury.”
