Mario Suarez is glad Fiorentina won in “a complicated Europa League group” and is settling into his new club.

This evening Josip Ilicic scored twice for a 2-0 victory away to Lech Poznan, which lets the Viola leapfrog from bottom of their group to second.

“This is a complicated Europa League group and we absolutely had to win tonight, so we’re happy to have achieved it with a great performance,” Suarez told Sky Sport Italia.

“We expected Lech Poznan to be this clammed up, as they played in a similar way in Florence and only beat us on the counter.

“We imposed our style on the game and are happy it took us to victory. Fiorentina are a great team and must always play as if it’s a Final. Now we continue like this and want to win at Sampdoria on Sunday too.”

Mario Suarez had been repeatedly linked with a January move to Liverpool just months after arriving in Florence.

“In Italy people like to talk without knowing things first. I’ve only been here a few months, it’s only natural I’d need time to get used to a new League and a new team.

“I am very happy here and must continue like this so I can make it more difficult for the Coach to pick his XI.”
