Walter Zenga admits “Fiorentina played well and deserved to win, but Sampdoria gave away two goals.”

The Blucerchiati had been unbeaten on home turf this season, but went down 2-0 at Marassi to the Serie A leaders.

“Fiorentina played well and deserved to win, but we gave away two goals, including a penalty after just 10 minutes,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s already difficult to play against them anyway, let alone when you do that. We could’ve made up for it in the final 10 minutes if Eder had scored on that chance, but football is a strange sport and we have to be more clinical.”

Zenga was furious at the decision not to give a second yellow card to Matias Vecino and exchanged heated words with Viola boss Paulo Sousa at half-time.

“That was part of the negative incidents that didn’t go our way. A second booking seemed evident and we gave away the second goal on what should’ve been a free kick in our favour.

“We were discussing the Vecino incident in a very civilised manner. I maintained it was a booking, Sousa said it wasn’t, but that’s all there was to it.

“Fiorentina really impressed me and they have everything it takes to challenge for the Scudetto.”
