As it is 30 years since the Heysel disaster, the Italian FIGC and Juventus will commemorate those who lost their lives.

On Thursday the entire Italy squad, FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio, director general Michele Uva, Juventus representatives Paolo Galimberti and Mariella Scirea and the association for the families of the Heysel victims will place flowers in front of the plaque remembering the tragedy.

Italy will also ‘retire’ the Number 39 shirt – although it doesn’t exist yet as numbers for internationals go up to 23.

A message will be read out before kick-off, then play will halt at the 39th minute for a period of reflection while all 39 names – without distinction of nationality or football fandom – will be listed on the giant screens in the stadium.
