Giorgio Chiellini is confident “Juventus can still win a fifth consecutive Scudetto” and doubts Andrea Pirlo will join Inter.

The defender is on international duty for Italy’s friendlies against Belgium and Romania.

“I think this Italy squad has everything it takes to become great. The first two years with Cesare Prandelli were very positive thanks to a fine group.

“Unfortunately, some mistakes were made and with great regret the World Cup in 2014 was not up to standard.

“I believe that Pirlo will come back to the Nazionale eventually although, as with others, we’re going to have to get used to him leaving sooner or later,” Chiellini told Rai Sport.

There have been reports the New York City FC midfielder will come to Inter on loan during the MLS close season.

“I really can’t see Andrea at Inter.”

Juve had a disastrous start to the season, but have clambered back up into seventh place.

“John Elkann is right to say Juventus can still win the fifth consecutive Scudetto. He said it to fire up the team after a difficult start, but we are improving and we can do it.

“There are many reasons for the difficulties we had this term, but we’re trying to get a handle on the situation with self-criticism.

“The problem is global, as we concede too many goals, but also don’t score enough. We have to correct the mistakes and get things back in balance.”
