The Polish goalkeeper is still nominally an Arsenal player, having joined the Giallorossi only on loan.

On from sporting director Walter Sabatini's claims that the club is 'covered' should the shot-stopper bid them farewell, the media has kicked off the speculation on who the successor could be.

According to Sky Sport, the most likely candidate for succession is Brazilian club Internacional's Alisson.

Roma are reportedly only inches from an agreement with the club on the other side of the Atlantic.

"I know there's been an offer by an Italian club [for $7m]," said the Brazilian, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport. "And I've been told I'll stay at Internacional at least until January.

"But I've explained to the managers that my ambition is to play in Europe with a club that plays the Champions League."

In addition Internacional defender Juan, who played for Roma between 2007 and 2012, stated that "Alisson lately has been asking me about Roma."

But the Brazilian is not the only target, as La Gazzetta reports that 19-year-old Como goalkeeper Simone Scuffet is also being followed by the Giallorossi.

In the meantime, Szczesny is bidding time, telling the Polish outlet Przegladsportowy.pl that he'll make up his mind after the next big international tournament.

“I'll take my decision after the Euros,” he said. “Roma want me, so why shouldn't Arsenal want me too?

“I can't see myself playing in any other English club. I love Arsenal, but I'm fine at Roma. I enjoy the trust of the Coach, the teammates and the supporters.

“Playing as a starter for Roma was the best choice. It's best to be protagonist with the team that came second in Serie A than to be on the bench in England.

“I didn't want to be a reserve, even though departing was a painful decision.

“But even [Arsenal Coach Arsene] Wenger thought it would be best for me to play, and I trusted him.”
