The Azzurrini had won all three matches in Group 2 before Friday’s 1-1 draw with joint leaders Serbia.

“We are a solid group who is working well and that is our strength,” the Genoa-owned midfielder told Rai Sport.

He is spending this season on loan at Pescara to get regular playing time in Serie B.

“Our objective is we want to win the European Under-21 Championship. We played well against Serbia and it’s a shame about the result, because we deserved more.

“Lithuania are a good team. Perhaps we have more technical skills, but they will bring a lot of determination and aggression to the game, so we must try to run harder.”

Italy play Lithuania in a Euro qualifier in Castel di Sangro on Tuesday.
