Piero Ausilio confirms Inter tried to sign Ezequiel Lavezzi and Soufiane Feghouli, but doubts Lazio will sell them Antonio Candreva.

The director spoke to Gazzetta TV this evening and discussed the strategy for the January transfer window, including a reported battle with Juventus for Paris Saint-Germain forward Lavezzi.

“I spoke to his agent over the summer and our attempt was made at the start of August because we were looking for a wide attacking player, who in the end was Adem Ljajic.

“It was immediately pretty clear there was little chance of it going through. He wanted to stay at PSG. He was also a rather expensive player to have on the books.

“Feghouli? His contract will expire in 2016, but he has given the priority to negotiating a renewal with Valencia.”

Today’s papers are full of reports that Inter are in negotiations for Italy and Lazio midfielder Candreva.

“He is a great player,” confessed Ausilio. “I learn pretty quickly and I know there are Presidents who don’t let you get near certain players. When it comes to Lazio, you’re better off leaving certain players in your dreams.

“When he was at Ternana we had the opportunity to sign him, but as his contractual situation was a bit complicated we preferred to let it go.”

As for interest in Sassuolo’s Domenico Berardi, it is well known that Juventus have first refusal.

“The situation there is pretty clearly defined. I know I like him and he is a big Inter fan, but his path is already set.”

Finally, Ausilio was asked what he would say if a club called to offer €35m for Mauro Icardi?

"I'd hang up."
