Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero reveals he tried buying Napoli, while setting terms for Roberto Soriano's transfer.

The midfielder was very nearly a player with the Partenopei this summer, but the deal fell through at the last minute.

“I don't think Soriano will go to Napoli,” said Ferrero. “To take him away it's necessary to pay the clause. If somebody wants to do that, we're willing to listen.

“[Juan] Zuniga? I'd sign him right away because he's a tremendous talent. Maybe we could have an exchange with [Vasco] Regini, I like that idea.”

Finally, Ferrero was asked about the attempted purchase of Napoli.

“It's true, I gave it a shot. But then Aurelio [De Laurentiis] came along.”
