The Coach was backed by his club despite failing to get a single victory in the opening 12 rounds.

“Toni is fundamental for the team on a technical and psychological level, although he’s been out for two months and to start him would be pushing it. The important thing is he’s here,” said Mandorlini.

“Against Napoli we must try to whittle down the errors in certain situations, considering they have such strong forwards. We have to multiply our energy and concentration.

“The break for international duty helped us to recover psychologically. This is a moment where we are all put to the test, so by sticking together we can overcome it.”

Mandorlini confirmed 18-year-old youth team player Luca Checchin will play from the start “in front of the defence. We have made this decision.”

Checchin has only seven Serie A minutes under his belt.
