The veteran Giallorosso compounded his earlier statements in defence of Coach Rudi Garcia with an equally lucid analysis of the team as a whole.
“This defeat isn't the product of Barcelona,” he told Premium Sport after the game. “You can't help but feel the effects of a crushing defeat like the one on Tuesday, but at the same time it gives you a thousand incentives.
“Our relationship with Garcia is excellent, I don't know what my teammates said after the other games but blaming the Coach is what I'd expect from cowards.
“We're the ones who take to the pitch and we must shoulder our part of the blame. He may have his share of it, but it must be taken collectively.
“When you take to the pitch with greater technical quality than your opponents and you can't exploit that, then you must question yourself.
“Things must be done as a team, otherwise it's too easy.
“In the years in which we were doing poorly it was clear from August onwards, whereas this season we were among the favourites until only two weeks ago.
“In fact we still are. We have to get to work, because time is on our side. There may be some confusion when we're short of minutes, it isn't easy to score against a team that's all barricaded at the back. Against Bayer [Leverkusen] we played better.”
