“Last Sunday was not a good day,” said the Coach of their 2-1 defeat to Carpi.

Leonardo Pavoletti was sent off for lashing out an elbow after just six minutes, the team’s seventh dismissal in 14 rounds.

“We wasted the work done over the past two months. It’s a shame we threw away the opportunity for a turning point in our campaign. We need to be more careful and I hope we’ve finally realised that now.”

Inter are also fresh from a 2-1 defeat at Napoli, who leapfrogged them to become the new Serie A leaders.

“This is a strong Inter side with a complete squad and are in the position they deserve to be. It’s a new team that was reinforced over the summer, have the advantage of not being in Europe and are one of the favourites to win the Scudetto.

“It’s a challenge for us and we know the difficulties we will face. So far we have been able to have our say against big clubs.”

Genoa need a result, as they are only three points clear of the relegation zone.

“It is a strange season. Our mentality is to earn point after point, along with other sides whose objective is survival. It’s a risk to consider yourselves mid-table, as you can be left in limbo.”
