The Aquile were beaten 2-0 on home turf by Juventus on Friday night, their fifth defeat in the last six rounds.

“I will not resign,” declared the Coach in a Press conference.

“I am the first person responsible for all this, but I won’t leave a sinking ship.”

The disastrous night was encapsulated by the image of Lazio captain Lucas Biglia bursting into tears at the final whistle, being consoled by referee Luca Banti.

“You have to realise there are players who are very emotionally attached to the club. I think that’s a positive sign.

“We want to emerge from this moment. The team believes in what it is doing, even in a moment of difficulty. Against Juve we faced a side that was simply stronger than us.

“At this moment desire to win is not enough, especially against Juventus. The real regrets are the dropped points against Empoli and Palermo.”

Marcello Lippi was in the stands for Lazio-Juventus, fuelling reports he’s lined up to take over from Pioli.
