The Granata extended their unbeaten run to 12 games in all competition thanks to this 1-1 draw at the Stadio Franchi and are now in joint eighth place with Palermo and Milan.

“Getting a result in Florence with their current form is great and even better considering we deserved the point. We could in theory even have regrets, as Padelli didn’t have many saves to make,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Objectively, aside from the goal we had four or five moves that with a cooler head could’ve been dealt with better.

“I think these lads were tired from Thursday, but we held out until the 94th minute and that is not to be sniffed at.

“Our problem right now is not where can Torino end up, but how can we continue working at this level?

“Over the summer we sold two very important players and opted to invest in several youngsters to replace them. That inevitably takes a little time for the team to gel.

“How is Pontus Jansson meant to grow if we don’t let him play? Kamil Glik has been with me for four years, he’s the captain of the team, but when I told him that Jansson would start tonight he agreed it was the right decision.”

Mohamed Salah came off the bench and scored his second goal of the season.
“I complimented Fiorentina, as in my view they picked a great player in Salah. He’s a fine signing.”

Ventura is the grand old man of Serie A and the 67-year-old was asked whether he was targeting a bigger club.

“I am at Torino, I am proud to be the Torino Coach and at a club that made football history. Clearly in around 10 years, when I have a little more experience, I’d like a bench that gives me the chance to put my ideas into practice.

“A national team? Yes, even San Marino! The important thing is to be on the field.”
