Pepe Reina admits Napoli “did not have the right humility” in their shock 3-2 loss at Bologna. “It was my mistake.”

They had been unbeaten in 18 competitive games, conceding only eight goals, before this unexpected collapse at the Dall’Ara.

“We did not start the game with the right humility,” confessed the goalkeeper on Sky Sport Italia.

“We conceded two goals in the opening 20 minutes, something that is extremely rare. When we started playing better, there was my mistake that cost us the game.

“The Coach had spoken to us at half-time and said it only needed a goal to re-open the game, but unfortunately my mistake was crucial.

“At the end two magic shots from Gonzalo Higuain gave us hope, but it was not enough to avoid defeat.

“In order to stay top of the table, we need to mature. The game with Inter was six days ago and should not have influenced our performance here.

“That win probably made us lose some of the humility we’d been talking about. A setback can happen, but the important thing is to stand up again and continue working.

Bologna deserve praise for their performance. It will be difficult against Roma next week, but a special game for us and our fans.

“The San Paolo will be packed out and celebrating, as they have so much faith in us. We’ll try to win on Sunday.”
