The Giallorossi kept their first European clean sheet in 28 games and qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League thanks to Bayer Leverkusen’s 1-1 draw with Barcelona.

“I enjoyed it. Sometimes they go in and you say nothing, but today I got lucky,” the goalkeeper told Mediaset Premium.

“It’s good to be playing, it’s never good to concede six in Barcelona, but today we kept a clean sheet and qualified.

“It was not the most beautiful performance, but we qualified and that’s what is important.”

At the moment of the final whistle and announcement Roma had qualified, jeers rained down from the Stadio Olimpico crowd.

“I think they have a right to be frustrated, as they want to win games and see us play beautiful football.

“The most important thing they’ll realise when they go home tonight is that we are in the last 16 of the Champions League and they’ll enjoy it.

“We have to work in training and improve our offensive game. At the start of the season we were very good attacking and had problems at the back. Now we’ve fixed the problems in defence, but lost something going forward.
“We have an excellent Coach and he will sort it out.”
