Alessandro Florenzi “would’ve preferred 70,000 fans jeering” rather than the 29,000 who turned up for Roma-BATE Borisov.

The Giallorossi squeezed through to the Champions League Round of 16 with a 0-0 draw, thanks to Barcelona holding Bayer Leverkusen 1-1, but were loudly jeered by the small Stadio Olimpico crowd.

“We must think positive and say we achieved the objective, which was qualification,” Florenzi told Mediaset Premium.

“The fans pay for their tickets and can do whatever they want, but I would’ve preferred 70,000 fans jeering.

“I think we had about 25 shots on goal tonight, so with a bit more of a clinical edge we would’ve avoided the two Wojciech Szczesny saves and scored, including my own chances.

“With that scenario, we’d be talking about a rediscovered Roma. We prepared for the game based on pressing and we saw that it worked in the first half, we had plenty of chances and were unable to take them.

“The Coach works on every aspect and we just need to follow his direction. If everyone takes their own path, then we’ll fall off the road.

“We are not terribly happy with the result, but it took us to the Round of 16 and we hope to do better from the next game.”
