The Nerazzurri are certain to remain top of the table this weekend and could extend their lead, as tomorrow Napoli host Roma and Fiorentina visit Juventus.

“There are seasons in which things go your way, but we’re not even halfway through yet,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“There will be many teams fighting for the Scudetto. Statistics are all well and good, but they're worthless until you win a trophy.

"We knew that this was a difficult arena to play in against an Udinese side in good shape. In a game you have to be ready to take advantage of situations and we made the most of our opportunities after suffering a bit under pressure.

“Our objective starting out was a Champions League place. The players formed a strong bond between them and even in defeat always tried to work a way out. I think this connection is very important.

“The goals will come and the style of football will improve, but the important thing is having a team that wants to work for one another.”

Mancini transformed his side yet again this evening, giving Martin Montoya his first competitive appearance since arriving on loan from Barcelona.

“I had wanted to give him this opportunity for a while. He struggled at first, but he’s a good lad and a good player. In defence I tend to change less, but I’m happy he had a good game after six months.

“Marcelo Brozovic is very young and will certainly become a great midfielder. Mauro Icardi will score all the goals he needs to without problems.

“We started the campaign without a set XI and changed so much over the summer. We got everyone involved in the project. Often when someone has been out for a while and then plays, they’re Man of the Match.”
